Our Flowers
When are your flowers available?
Our growing season typically runs from late May through October, which are the months we’re available to take on weddings and events. We have some spring flowers available for wholesale purchase (designers only) in the month of May—contact us for availability.
can i have x flower for my wedding or event?
We design with the flowers we grow, which means while we can take requests for specific flowers, we cannot guarantee that any specific flower will be available, due to variations in our season each year. Mother Nature is unpredictable! If you’ve requested a flower we don’t grow, we’ll let you know and suggest alternatives that we do. Occasionally, if a crop in our field isn’t ready for your event, we can source from other local farms. For large installations, we typically source US-grown foliage and greens, which we often need in amounts larger than we are able to grow.
What about roses?
Roses are notoriously difficult to grow in our Downeast climate, and we’ve chosen not to grow them and focus on other varieties instead. We currently don’t have any rose farmers in our area (that we know of—if you’re one, get in touch!) As an alternative to roses, we grow 10+ varieties of lisianthus, which look and feel much like roses, without the thorns—and their petals are a perfect substitute!
I don’t have an event, I just want to buy some flowers—can I do that?
We have several opportunities throughout our growing season to purchase our flowers! We offer a weekly bouquet subscription July-September for local flower lovers, as well as provide pre-made bouquets to to businesses in MDI and Ellsworth.
While we don’t have a storefront at the farm, we do put out a roadside flower cart Fri-Sat during our growing season, where we offer mason jar arrangements for $5-$10. Cash only—and no change—so come prepared, and come early—they sell out fast!
We currently do not offer regular flower delivery, but are open to very local (Trenton and nearby) inquiries during the season, if we have availability. Must be scheduled 2 days in advance—email or call us.
DIY Buckets
what’s included in your mixed buckets?
Our mixed buckets include a collection of 75 or so stems of focal flowers, secondary flowers, textural elements and greens. Each bucket will provide everything you need to design 5-8 mason-jar-sized arrangements, 2-3 centerpieces, or 15-20 bud vases. We will ask you about the types of designs you’re planning to best tailor the types of flowers for your buckets.
Can i order diy buckets, but have you design my bouquets and boutonnieres?
Absolutely. We can combine DIY buckets with any designed elements—we often take care of the personal flowers (bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, crowns, etc) for clients who otherwise buy DIY flowers for their events.
Can i get diy supplies from you, too?
We just provide the flowers, not the supplies, for DIY clients. If you’re designing your own personal flowers, you’ll likely want to purchase floral tape for bouquets, as well as small pins for wrapping bouquets and boutonnieres in ribbon—all of these supplies can be purchased easily online, or at a craft store with a floral department, like Michael’s.
We’re happy to briefly consult with you about vases if you’re designing your own arrangements—and encourage you to consult YouTube for arranging tutorials!
Flower Care
How do I care for my cut flowers?
In general, the flowers you buy from our farm will have been cut within a day or two of purchasing, which means they will have a longer vase life than store-bought flowers. All our flowers need is a fresh cut of the ends before you place them into water at home, and clean water every other day. With the proper care, your farm-fresh flowers should last up to a week—and often much longer for some varieties! There’s no need to add preservatives or flower food to your water—just change it regularly.
Designed Arrangements: If you’re picking up pre-designed arrangements from us, just ensure that the vases have fresh water at all times. If you’re refilling multiple table centerpieces, it’s helpful to have a small watering can with a long spout to reach the mouth of the vase. It’s especially important to check water on shallow vases, as our flowers are fresh and drink quickly!
DIY Buckets: Clients often pick up DIY buckets a day or two (or three!) before their wedding or event. If kept in a cool place, out of direct sun, these flowers should be perfectly fresh for your event. Be sure to freshly cut stems when you place the flowers into vases, and ensure they have clean water throughout their journey to your event.
Personal Flowers: If you need to store bouquets, boutonnieres, or other personal flowers overnight, or a few hours before your event, it’s absolutely doable! Keep bouquets in water, in a cool place, out of direct sunlight—but not in the fridge! Home refrigerators don’t have the humidity control that our floral fridges do, so it’s best to keep them instead in a cool area of your home or venue.
Boutonnieres, corsages, hair pieces, and flower crowns—anything that’s not easily kept in water— should be kept in the boxes we provide and kept in a refrigerator. We carefully select florals and greens for these arrangements that are especially durable and long-lasting, and they are fine in their boxes in the fridge for at least a day.
